What drives the price of a private flight — distance, aircraft category, positioning, fees and waiting time — and how to bring it down with empty legs and flexible dates.

What determines the price of a private jet flight

There is no per-route fare that holds true for everyone: the cost of a private flight is built from scratch each time, and five factors set it.

  • Distance and flight time. It is the basis of the calculation, but it does not decide alone: an hour of turboprop and an hour of long-range jet are not the same hour.

  • Aircraft category. A light jet for six and a heavy jet for fourteen sit on different scales of fuel burn, crew and fees.

  • Positioning. If the aircraft is not at your departure airport, it has to be flown in and flown back. On many operations that empty leg is the single largest item.

  • Fees and handling. Landing, parking, private terminal and ramp services vary enormously between airports, even within the same country.

  • Waiting time. If the aircraft stays at destination waiting for the return, that time is billed; if it can take another job and come back for you, the split changes.

Why we do not publish a fare per route

Because it would be untrue. The same London–Ibiza changes cost depending on which aircraft is free that day, where it is parked and whether it has to be repositioned. Publishing a fixed price would force us to inflate it to cover the worst case, and whoever asks for a quote would end up paying that margin. We would rather price every flight against real availability: the proposal arrives within minutes and states which aircraft is offered and why.

What a quote includes — and what it does not

A charter proposal covers the aircraft and its crew, fuel, handling and private terminal (FBO) access at both ends, onboard catering and baggage without airline allowances. Ground transport, special permits — sensitive equipment, large pets, bulky cargo — and off-menu catering sit outside it and are itemised separately.

Five ways to bring the cost of a private flight down

  • Flexible dates. This is the biggest lever by far: it lets you take an aircraft that is already where you need it.

  • Empty legs. The legs an aircraft flies empty to return to base are offered at a fraction of a full charter. They are listed under available empty legs and appear and vanish within hours.

  • Same-day return. If the aircraft only waits a few hours it usually beats sending it away and bringing it back; on long stays it almost never does.

  • An alternative airport. A nearby secondary field may charge lower fees and sit closer to where you are actually going. You can compare them under airports.

  • The category the group needs, not the largest one. Matching the aircraft to the real number of passengers and their baggage avoids paying for capacity nobody uses.

How long the flight takes, which is what you can know in advance

Flight times are stable and give you a feel for the operation. Madrid–Ibiza is around five hundred kilometres and roughly an hour in the air; London–Ibiza is closer to two hours. Add fifteen or twenty minutes of formalities at the private terminal, against the two or three hours a commercial flight demands.

In short

Chartering a private jet has no catalogue price: it has a price for your route, your date and your group. Tell us those three things and you will get a firm proposal, with no obligation, naming the exact aircraft that covers it.
